Critical thinking

a. ‘All children have the right to quality education. How can we ensure this is right for every child? Discuss the role of the government and the parents to make sure that every child can attend school.’

Quality education is the demand of the 21st century. There are different aspects related to getting a quality education. The roles of parents, government, and schools are the main stakeholders related to a student’s quality education.

Role of Government
– The government can subsidize education in several forms, including school fees for low-income parents.
– Providing equality in education whereby the government ensures that the public schools offer a high quality of knowledge to the learners.
– A government should ensure that teachers are well paid so that they are motivated in the provision of their services.
– A government should put in place rules that could check to eliminate outdated syllabi since it misdirects many teachers and learners in schools.

Roles of Parents
– Kids would be easily inspired by what their parents do. So it would be good to be a role model in their learning phase.
– Parents should talk to their kid about their school life and different memories associated with it.
– Parents should help them to be more organized with their daily routine and find enough time for the lessons.
– Parents should make sure that the kids are provided with a peaceful and pleasant atmosphere at home.

b. Do you think that there is still discrimination between sons and daughters in terms of providing education in our country? What strategies do you suggest to overcome such discrimination against girls?’

In Nepal, education is still in the beginning stages. Even if efforts to provide free education through government schools have advanced, most people believe that this education falls short of what private schools offer. Government schools have less funding and offer lower-quality instruction than private ones.

While their brothers have access to high-quality, or at least superior, education at private schools, many girls are still enrolled in government institutions. This discrepancy stems from Nepalese society’s long history of marginalization based on gender. More significantly, parents believe that girls will move to their new homes after marriage and be unable to care for them as they age, which leads to discrimination against them in school.

Last but not least, parents continue to send their sons to prestigious schools while sending their daughters to less prestigious ones because they still think that men are stronger politically, intellectually, and physically.

A number of strategies should be applied by all to afford education to the girls to bring about the prosperity of the nation. Some of them are listed below:

1. Gender biases should be ended.
2. Women should be given platforms to be in power and achieve economic success.
3. Violence and sexual assault against women should be ended.
4. The preference for the son should be removed from the people’s psychology.
5. Money given in the name of dowry should be invested in the girl’s education.

c. ‘A Chinese philosopher, Confucius, said, “If your plan is for one year, plant rice; if your plan is for ten years, plant trees; if your plan is for one hundred years, educate children.” What is the meaning of this saying? Elaborate this with examples.’

The above sentence only means that our destination decides what kind of work we should do. It will take a long time to reach our lofty goals and get where we want to go. One of the ideas that the Chinese teacher who lived before Christ put forward was that confusion is what makes people’s lives change in long-lasting ways. Planting plants and rice will produce food within a year or ten years, but this is different. It will be almost 100 years before things get better.

In reality, the sentence above is talking about how important schooling is. At this point, people who don’t have schooling are like a pen that doesn’t have ink. How we learn affects our future. It gives us a good name in society. To think of a mature country without education is also like building a castle in the sky. If today’s kids get a good education, they will be very important to the growth of the country and the creation of a polite society in the future. As a result, giving kids the best education possible is an investment that will pay off for the whole country in the long run.
